Worm Castings 101

Worm castings are the manure created by a worm. Worms consume dirt and organic matter and then
produce tiny round balls called worm castings. They are a natural soil supplement found in nature that
has a number of benefits to plants and the soil they're planted in.

Worm Castings are produced naturally simply by worms “using the bathroom.” In much of the soil found in nature, you'll find worm castings mixed in. At Simple Grow, we produce them in 100% pure concentrations in our temperature-controlled facility. Our proprietary process ensures that only the highest-quality castings are produced and only castings are left in the product.

Simple Grow Soil Builder worm castings are organic. The worms are fed a controlled diet of organic matter and there are no pesticides or GMO's used in the production of the castings. Not all worm castings are organic, it is important to check with the manufacturer about the specific soil and diet the worms are fed to insure truly organic castings.

Our worms are African nightcrawlers. The worms live in temperatures of 70 to 90 degrees comfortably
and are perfect for making castings. They also happen to make fantastic fishing bait!

No. It really doesn't smell. I know it's hard to believe, but worm castings don't smell bad like regular manure. If smell is a concern for your manure or fertilizer needs, worm castings win, hands down.

Luckily, it's really not possible to use too much worm castings. Castings are not considered a “hot” type
of soil supplement. That means they will never burn the roots of a plant like chicken manure and other
products. You don't have to use much to make a big difference, but even if you planted something in
100% worm castings, it would still grow.

Not at all. There are no chemicals in the product, no dangerous gases, and it's safe to touch. It physically can't catch on fire. It's the safest soil supplement on the market.

Our directions for usage come with every order, but we are also happy to help answer specific usage questions before or after your purchase!  The bottom line is, a little bit goes a long way. For example, if you're covering your yard with castings, it only takes about 5-10 pounds per 100 square feet, depending on the condition of your grass and soil. How to Use Worm Castings

Yes! Worm castings make a huge difference for flowers in size, speed of growth, and brightness of color. For best results, mix 1 part castings and 3 parts soil when planting flowers.

Of course! Trees of all kinds are positively affected by worm castings. To utilize worm castings on trees, use two cups of worm castings. Simply apply the worm castings from the root to the outer edge of the tree branches (dripline).

Worm castings and vegetables are a perfect match. Your vegetables on worm castings will be bigger than you ever thought possible. In addition to making them bigger, many crops will actually have an increased yield with worm castings. The ratio will depend on what vegetables you're growing, but typically 1 part worm castings to 3 or 4 parts soil is recommended.

It varies, depending on what you're growing. But about 30 pounds of castings should do the job for most 10'x10' gardens.

Many farmers and agricultural operations are turning to worm castings for fantastic results. The amount you need will depend on the crop you're growing and how densely you plant the field. Contact us for a custom quote on bulk worm castings.
